The Gospel
The Gospel which means good news centers on Jesus Christ, who He is and what He has done. Good news is necessary for every person in this world.
The Bible starts with the fact that everyone was created by God (Genesis 1:1). We were created to fellowship with God. The problem is that starting with the first human beings until now every person being choses to go their own way and reject the laws of God their Creator. Sin is breaking God’s laws (1 John 3:4). Sin separates a person from God (Isaiah 59:2). Every person in the world is a sinner (Romans 3:10).
If sinners die in their sinful condition, they will be separated from God forever (Romans 6:23). The Bible calls this the second death (Revelation 20:14; 21:8). They will spend their eternity in a real place called hell, enduring the punishment for their sin. This is bad news.
However, God moved in love and grace to provide the salvation so desperately needed by every person (Ephesians 2:4-5). He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to take upon Himself the punishment for mankind’s sin (John 3:16). Jesus, who is the eternal God, was born as a human (Galatians 4:4-5). He was sinless and thus He could be a substitute to pay for other’s sin (2 Corinthians 5:21). His death on the cross was sufficient to take care of the judgment for sin.
A sinner can have the salvation that Jesus paid. It is not earned by works or good deeds (Titus 3:5). Salvation is a gift that is only obtained by faith upon Jesus and His sacrifice. A person must believe that He alone can save (Ephesians 2:8-9). Salvation now provides the ability to fellowship with God again. Jesus’ resurrection from the dead shows that eternal life is possible. The person who dies in faith in Christ will be with God forever in heaven (John 14:1-6).
